Benefits to you and your community

Being a Justice of the Peace is a worthwhile and very rewarding experience. The skills, which you develop can be used in your personal and working life. The video clips about becoming a Justice of the Peace describe how this happens and includes real Justices of the Peace talking about what they get from serving as Justices. The benefits include:

  • Being part of the community and giving something back to the community
  • Having a better awareness of the diversity and social needs of the community
  • Developing existing personal skills further - such as communication, objectivity, decision making and self management
  • Gaining an understanding of the law

Justices of the Peace are volunteers whose work directly benefits local communities. By agreeing to act as judges in their local criminal courts, Justices of the Peace help to ensure that crimes that affect local communities are handled fairly and effectively. In doing so, they help to make those communities safer.
