Sitting Days

You will be expected to make yourself available to sit in court for at least 12 days in the year.

In some parts of the country, particularly in very rural areas, there may not be sufficient court business for Justices of the Peace to attend for 12 sitting days per year – in these areas, you will be expected to sit often enough to play a full part in meeting the business needs of your local court or courts.

A court sitting may be all day or as little as 30 minutes when dealing with a custody case outside normal court days. It is not possible to know in advance how long the court business will take.
